I believe that her purpose in writing this was to inform readers on the gender inequality in the global workforce. I also think that the structure of her argument was very valid. She does a great job at informing the readers about the struggles that women face in the work place compared to men. She also gave a great example of a Jamaican women and her struggles in the work place and managing her family as a single mother.
I think the authors perspective is that she is against inequality towards women. I also liked how she brought up the fact that women of color carry the heaviest burden because we are both women and black. I also liked how she commented on structural violence and the assault towards women in general because women are more vulnerable targets. I really enjoyed reading this part of the text because it was very informative.
While reading news articles and watching the news I have seen how big of a difference the unequal wages between men and women are. Women and men can have the same position but the man can be paid so much more than the women. In the United States there are also stereotypes about the jobs that men and women can have. Mostly men are shown as firefighters and police officers when women are only shown as teachers or nurses. While watching television shows you often see mothers as staying at home and taking care of their families while the husband goes out and works for his family. Outside of the United States, the stereotypes could be even worse because they may expect a women to get married at a certain age and they expect that her husband will have income and that she will depend on him.The photo below shows the how the wages are different between women and men globally.
What can we do to help change the wage difference between men and women?
